BOARD OF GOVERNORS DIVERSITY PLEDGE

In the coming weeks, all NCAA presidents and chancellors will be encouraged to sign a diversity and inclusion pledge that was recently approved by the Board of Governors. The pledge states the commitment of an institution to pursuing and achieving ethnic and racial diversity and gender equity in college sports hiring practices. Please be watching for a communication detailing the pledge and the process to sign it in the near future. The pledge language can be found by clicking here.

2017 PRESIDENTIAL LEGISLATION

The Presidents Council identified the following 2017 Convention proposals of particular interest: 1) independent medical care; 2) financial aid from outside sources in excess of $1,000; and 3) graduate and post-baccalaureate transfers. To see details on these proposals and the complete initial publication of proposed legislation, click here. The Council will review this list during its October meeting.

PRESIDENTS & COMMISSIONERS COMMUNICATION BEST PRACTICES GUIDE

We are pleased to share with you the Division III Communication Best Practices: A Guide for Chancellors, Presidents, and Commissioners. The best practices guide is the product of a year-long working group of Division III presidents and commissioners. The resource will assist presidents, chancellors, commissioners, and institutional staff in identifying communication and operational best practices.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS COMPOSITION RESOLUTION

The Presidents Council voted to support an NCAA Board of Governors resolution to continue its ongoing evaluation of the Board's composition, structure and responsibilities. Using feedback from all three divisions, the Board's Ad Hoc Committee on Structure and Composition will craft a recommendation regarding the Board's composition - currently consisting of 12 voting members from Division I and two each from Divisions II and III - and responsibilities no later than April 2017. Any proposed changes would require an Association-wide vote at the 2018 Convention. A copy of the resolution may be found here

2017 CONVENTION SCHEDULE

The Division III Chancellors/Presidents Luncheon at the 2017 Convention will be held Thursday, January 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be additional programming and engagement sessions for presidents and chancellors on Thursday afternoon, in addition to the Division III Issues Forum on Friday morning. If your schedule permits, we encourage your attendance. Convention registration opens on Monday, September 12. The 2017 Convention schedule for chancellors and presidents can be found here
