Amateurism Certifications for Enrolled Student-Athletes

Still in need of a final amateurism certification for a student-athlete already enrolled on campus?
Beginning March 1, 2019, the amateurism review team will be shifting the IRL cycle from Fall 2018/Spring 2019 to Fall 2019/Spring 2020. In order for an amateurism case to gain ready to process status beyond the March 1st date, please ensure the student-athlete’s NCAA ID# has been updated to your 2019/2020 IRL. In addition, the same Fall 2019/Spring 2020 IRL cycle will be used for your upcoming Fall 2019 and Winter/Spring 2020 projected enrollees.

2019-20 International Guide

The 2019-20 Guide to International Academic Standards is now available. Download a new copy of the guide here. The updated guide has individual profiles for Canadian provinces and Australian territories, as well as updates to specific country profiles found on page 15.

Regional Rules

Eligibility Center staff will again present several sessions during the upcoming Regional Rules Seminars in Indianapolis and Denver. We are currently preparing presentations to provide updates surrounding academic and amateurism initial-eligibility processing for both domestic and international accounts. If you have suggestions for topics you wish to have covered in depth, please email your suggestions to ecinfo@ncaa.org. We look forward to seeing you in the spring!

Application of Amateurism Bylaws

The Eligibility Center is available to answer questions on how an amateurism certification decision was reached and assist your office with the Decision Inquiry Form process. However, when questions arise regarding the application of an amateurism certification decision (e.g., what games a student can use to meeting withholding requirements, repayment process, etc.), please contact the Academic and Membership Affairs staff at 317-917-6003.

Proactive Initiatives Underway

The Eligibility Center staff has begun the process of reviewing cases under our “Early ID” program. To date, we’ve reviewed almost 500 domestic and over 750 international cases. As a result of their unique circumstances, these cases have been identified to determine if outreach to the recruiting institutions, high schools and, in some cases, students or parents is warranted. This initiative seeks to identify issues early enough in the recruiting cycle to avoid last minute issues or processing challenges. Should you be contacted by our staff, please take time to familiarize yourself and your coaches with the account specifics and assist us as we work to solve problems before they start. As we enter our fifth year of proactive initiatives surrounding initial academic and amateurism cases, we appreciate your support and responsiveness.

Open Task Report

We have updated the Task Titles in the Open Task Report on the MI Portal. As shown in the image here, tasks previously listed under “Education” are now “Academic” and ones previously listed under “Sports” are now “Amateurism.” You can filter your list by Task Title to help better identify students with a specific type of open task (e.g., Request Final Amateurism).
