NCAA Division III
DIVERSITY & INCLUSION QUARTERLY UPDATE
FEBRUARY 2018

Did You Know?

The following are the latest updates in Division III:

2018 NCAA Convention.  The Convention was held January 17-20 in Indianapolis.  Delegates adopted eight of nine proposals.  The membership defeated a governance-sponsored proposal related to the football preseason.  The final voting results grid and the final roll call vote report are now available on NCAA.org.  All Division III Convention PowerPoints and resources also are located in the 2018 Convention Resource link on the Division III homepage.

Student Immersion Program.  Forty ethnic minority students attended the convention and participated in the third annual Student Immersion Program.  The educational opportunity exposed the participants to Division III, its members and the governance process in addition to assigning them a professional and career path mentor.

We asked Emma Morgan-Bennett, a student-athlete at Swarthmore College, about her recent experience with the Division III Student Immersion Program.

What was most memorable about the program?  It provided me the opportunity to network with professionals; as well as bond with my peers who were in the program.

What lessons did you learn that you want to share with other students?  I was encouraged that the NCAA is trying to increase its diversity in that they want young, smart and engaged students of color to contribute professionally to Division III.  It is important to actively recruit diverse personnel.
