Final Amateurism Certification Reminder for Students

PSAs enrolling full time at an NCAA Division I or II college or university in Fall 2019 may request their final amateurism certification starting April 1.

To request final amateurism, PSAs should log in to their Certification Account at eligibilitycenter.org and:
  • Review their added sports and answers to Sports Questions.
  • Check their graduation and enrollment dates and update if necessary.
  • Review any open tasks and complete necessary information.
In order for a student to be reviewed by the amateurism certification staff, they need to have requested their final amateurism. For students who are already “preliminary certified,” they will not be eligible for competition until they have requested final amateurism.

Eligibility Center Case Processing Timeline

Did you know you can track Eligibility Center case processing inventory? Once you sign in to the Membership Portal, locate the blue lightning bolt in the upper right-hand corner to view the EC’s most recent case processing data. Both academic and amateurism data are available to view in real time.

Amateurism Certifications for Enrolled Student-Athletes

As a reminder, as of March 1st any student already on campus who still needs amateurism certification must be activated to your 1920 IRL cycle. Those students most commonly impacted have recently added an additional sport (e.g., previously only certified in cross country, now adding track), mid-year enrollees, or spring sport athletes who delayed requesting final certification. You may keep the 1819 cycle active if necessary, for on-campus reporting, but to be placed in line for amateurism review, the students must also be activated to your 1920 cycle for the reviewed sport.

PSA Tracking Updates

Last month we alerted you to several changes made to the “Reports” feature on the Membership Portal. Our Monitoring Enhancement resource explains the new report options. The automated “Track PSA” feature is in place to alert your institutions when a student has an open task that requires action by a member institution or third party. Typical examples of tasks that trigger the automated “Track PSA” feature are:
  • PSA tasks for matriculation letter for amateurism and/or academics.
  • PSA tasks requesting information from a member institution.
  • PSA tasks requesting information from a third party for amateurism.
When these tasks are assigned, a notification regarding the PSA is delivered to the number one contact on the Eligibility Center contact list. If you do not wish to track the student after receiving the automated notification, you may simply “untrack” the student on the Student Details report. The Eligibility Center recommends a compliance staff member be listed as the number one contact in your Membership Portal contact list. Contacts may be updated via the Membership Portal; view our tutorial here to learn how to update contacts.
To better identify which students are being tracked, the names and ID numbers of tracked students are highlighted in green.

Final Transcript Submission

If they haven’t already, graduating high school seniors will soon receive notice to arrange to have their final transcripts submitted to the Eligibility Center. Please encourage students to request their counselors upload these transcripts as soon as their proof of grad is posted to help prevent any delays in their certification.

Your institution can utilize the Academic Records Submissions Forms when submitting official documents on behalf of the student. This form should only be used for submission of academic records and not any type of correspondence or inquiries. Please do not use these forms when submitting correspondence or inquiries. Click here for the Academic Records Submission FAQs.

Foreign Tours and Summer School Deadlines

If one of your athletic teams will be going on a foreign tour this summer and any of your incoming student-athletes have not had their amateurism certified by the Eligibility Center, you may need to request an urgent certification. Before requesting, please ensure the student has requested final amateurism and all open tasks in their EC account are closed.

Student Inquiries

Inquiries regarding student accounts should be referred to customer service by phone or email. Sending questions to ec-processing@ncaa.org will delay your response. Please call customer service at 877-544-2950 or email your domestic or Canadian questions to ecinfo@ncaa.org or international questions to ec-international@ncaa.org.
